How the Port Tour Works

Four steps from the Naples port to Positano, Sorrento and back to the port.

  1. Meet at the port

Your driver waits with a personalized sign at the pickup you chose: the port, Molo Beverello or Molo Pisacane. Show your booking to the team and confirm which pier you will walk to.

  2. Drive to Positano

About 1.5 hours by Mercedes or minivan with air conditioning and Wi-Fi, with panoramic stops on the way. In Positano you get about an hour to explore on your own.

  3. Free time in Sorrento

A drive of about 45 minutes takes you to Sorrento, on the Sorrentine Peninsula, for free time in the town center. The itinerary says an hour; the listing's highlights say 90 minutes. Food is not included.

  4. Back to the port

About 1.5 hours back to the same pier, around 7 hours after you set off. Check that this return time leaves a margin before your ship's all-aboard time.

Shore Excursion Guide

Seeing the Amalfi Coast on a Cruise Day

Return times, which towns fit, the pier you meet at, and shared vs private.

From the Naples cruise port, a shore excursion fits two Amalfi Coast area towns into about seven hours. Aiana Travel’s Amalfi Coast Tour from Naples Port: Ideal for Cruise Guests meets you at the port, drives about 1.5 hours to Positano for an hour, continues to Sorrento and brings you back to the pier. It costs from $190 per person (checked October 2026) and has 5.0 from 4 GetYourGuide reviews, very few so far.

Before you book any tour on this page, compare the return time on the voucher with your ship’s all-aboard time, and leave room for traffic on the coast road. No tour here can promise the road will be clear.

Quick picks for a port day

Your return time comes first

The shore excursions compared here last 7 to 8.5 hours. The coast is roughly an hour’s drive from the port area: about 65 minutes to Positano and about 63 minutes to Amalfi on a route planner with no traffic, and the tours’ own itineraries allow up to 1.5 hours each way. Return times can slip in traffic, so a 7-hour tour leaves more slack than an 8.5-hour one on the same ship schedule.

Give the operator your ship’s name, docking time and all-aboard time when you book. Naples Bay Tour and the Worldtours Viator listings ask for exactly that, and Di Sarno asks cruise passengers to get in touch if the ship’s schedule does not fit its departure. Some Viator listings refuse refunds if the ship arrives late and you miss the tour, so read the cancellation terms. Others state a return guarantee: Project Napoli Service says that if your ship has left, it will arrange transport to the next port of call.

Which pier you meet at

Cruise ships berth at the Stazione Marittima on Molo Angioino. Molo Beverello, close by, is the hydrofoil pier for the islands and the coast, and cruise passengers often mix the two up. Aiana Travel’s tour offers pickup at the port, Molo Beverello or Molo Pisacane, so confirm which one you chose. Touring Italy’s guide waits with a sign right outside the cruise terminal, where taxis, drivers and guides are allowed to wait, and its description has you leaving the ship at 9:00.

Which towns fit into a cruise day

Two towns is the comfortable number. Aiana Travel’s day gives Positano about an hour and Sorrento an hour to 90 minutes, depending on which part of the listing you read. Sorrento sits on the Sorrentine Peninsula and is not an Amalfi Coast town, but it is the easiest second stop on the way back toward Naples.

On Touring Italy’s semi-private shore excursion the driver suggests Positano first for about an hour, then Sorrento, Amalfi or Ravello. Its Viator twin, Semi Private Amalfi Coast Shore Excursion with Pick Up (4.7 from 199 reviews on Viator), recommends two towns, Positano and Sorrento or Amalfi and Ravello. One reviewer found nine people a squeeze in the minivan.

Three-town days are longer. Worldtours’ Sorrento, Positano & Amalfi Premium Tour offers a Stazione Marittima pickup for cruise passengers only and gives 70 minutes in Sorrento, 75 in Positano and 1.5 hours in Amalfi over 8.5 hours. Di Sarno’s Group Tour to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello has a Cruise Terminal Naples meeting option at the same $101 as its city pickup, with an hour in Positano and 1.5 hours each in Amalfi and Ravello over 8 hours. One reviewer felt the stops were cut short to get cruise passengers back to the port on time, which is the trade you want on a port day.

Shared or private from the port

Shared tours from the port run from $71 to $190 per person. A private car puts the timing in your hands, and you can tell the driver your all-aboard time directly. On GetYourGuide, the Amalfi Coast Deluxe Private Tour costs $313 per person for up to 8 and lets you choose any pickup in Naples, while Di Sarno’s Private Tour to Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi is $241 per person by sedan, with pickup within Naples including ports.

Project Napoli Service’s private shore excursion on Viator prices by party size: about $621 for one traveler, $310 each for two, $175 each for four, $116 each for six and $87 each for eight with a driver only (minimal English). With a driver and guide it is $456 each for two and $247 each for four. Our private tours page compares driver-only and guided options in detail.

Tours to leave for another trip

Skip You Know! Boat’s Positano and Amalfi Boat Tour with Drinks: you are back in Naples no earlier than 20:00 to 20:15, and the operator says it is not for cruise passengers. Giromondo lists its Exclusive Tour of Amalfi Coast and Premium Tour of Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi as not recommended for cruise ship passengers. Other sea days on our boat tours page run 8 to 10 hours and depend on the weather.

If you would rather go on your own, NLG’s ferries leave Molo Beverello for Amalfi and Positano in season, until early November in 2026. The first sailing is 08:35 and the last back is 17:00 from Amalfi or 16:35 from Positano. Our Naples to Amalfi ferry guide has the timetable, and the Pompeii combo page covers days that add the ruins.

Before you book

Write down your all-aboard time, then pick the shortest tour that gets you to the towns you care about. Choose Aiana Travel’s 7-hour day if Positano and Sorrento are enough and a short listing history does not worry you. Choose Touring Italy’s semi-private day for a hand in choosing the towns, or a private driver if a group of four or more can share the cost. When you have your ship’s date, check availability for the port tour.
