"Wonderful day at the Amalfi coast with Mary S and Antonio. This tour gets you easily from point A to B to C and back to A. The transfers are smooth and it’s hassle free, so would recommend it! Good to know though, this is not really a tour but more a transfer service. Along the way, the guide will tell you sometimes what you see, but won’t give you any other information or background about the area."

How the Coach Day Works
Four steps from a bus stop in central Naples to Amalfi and back, on the operator's own timetable.
Board at a central stop
The bus starts at Molo Beverello at 08:10 and makes seven more stops in central Naples, the last at Via Ferraris at 08:55. There is no hotel pickup, so arrive 5 to 10 minutes early.
Free time in Positano
About 1.5 hours by coach brings you to Positano around 11:00. The listing gives about 3 hours of free time for the beach, the lanes and lunch.
Cross to Amalfi
From April to October you go on to Amalfi by ferry, about 30 minutes, leaving Positano at 13:30 if the sea allows. From November to March the transfer is by bus.
Amalfi, then back to Naples
Spend your free time around the cathedral and the seafront. The bus back leaves Amalfi at 17:30 in summer and 16:30 in winter, about 1.5 hours to Naples.

Day Trip Guide
Choosing an Amalfi Coast Day Trip from Naples
Which towns you see, how long you get in each, and what costs extra.
You can see the Amalfi Coast in a day from Naples, and a shared road tour is the simplest way to do it. These day trips collect you in central Naples in the morning, drive 1 to 1.5 hours to the first town and bring you back in the early evening, 8 to 9.5 hours in all. The tours compared here cost from $62 to $122 per person (checked October 2026).
Start with the Amalfi Coast Day Trip in Positano & Amalfi by Tramvia (Beducci Travel Bus) if you want long stops: the listing gives about 3 hours in Positano and 2 in Amalfi, from $73 per person, with 4.6 from 3,136 GetYourGuide reviews. If you also want Sorrento, the Sorrento, Positano & Amalfi Premium Tour by Worldtours costs $71 and is the most-reviewed tour on this site (4.8 from 18,989 reviews).

What a coach day from Naples looks like
On the Positano and Amalfi coach day, the bus starts at Molo Beverello at 08:10 and makes seven more stops in central Naples, the last at Via Ferraris at 08:55. There is no hotel pickup, so choose the stop nearest your hotel and be there 5 to 10 minutes early. The operator asks you to follow its own timetable, not the times shown on GetYourGuide.
You reach Positano around 11:00. From April to October you continue to Amalfi by ferry, leaving Positano at 13:30 if the sea allows, and the bus home leaves Amalfi at 17:30. From 1 November to 31 March the transfer goes by bus and the return leaves Amalfi at 16:30. Allow about 1.5 hours for the drive back, longer in traffic.
Minibus tours such as the Worldtours day work differently. They collect you at hotels and fixed points (11 on that tour, including the Archaeological Museum, with the Stazione Marittima for cruise passengers only) and move the group from town to town by road. Each stop is shorter, and the day ends with a drive of about 75 minutes back to Naples. Booking less than 8 hours ahead puts you at a single meeting point, Starhotels Terminus at 08:30.
Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi, or Positano and Amalfi only
Most day trips from Naples follow one of two patterns. The three-stop day adds Sorrento, which sits on the Sorrentine Peninsula facing the Bay of Naples and is not one of the Amalfi Coast towns. You get its old town and a limoncello tasting on several tours, then Positano and Amalfi on the coast itself.
The two-stop day skips Sorrento and gives that time to Positano and Amalfi. On the coach day that means about 3 hours in Positano, against 75 minutes on the Worldtours day. One low-star reviewer on the coach day would have preferred more time in Amalfi and less in Positano, and two others found both towns very crowded.
| Tour | Towns | Hours | Free time per stop | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Positano & Amalfi coach day | Positano, Amalfi | 9 | 3 h, 2 h | $73 |
| Worldtours premium tour | Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi | 8.5 | 70 min, 75 min, 1.5 h | $71 |
| Giromondo premium tour | Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi | 8.5 | 75 min, 75 min, 2 h | $101 |
| Naples Official Tour | Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi | 9 | 1.5 h, 1 h, 110 min | $79 |
| Exclusive Tour of Amalfi Coast | Sorrento, Positano (stop outside town), Amalfi, Ravello | 9.5 | 1.5 h, 15 min, 1.5 h, 1.5 h | $95 |
Our itineraries page sets these routes against the Ravello days stop by stop, and the Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi guide walks through that day hour by hour.
Free time, lunch and the Amalfi boat ride
Treat listed free time as a guide. Several operators say timings change with traffic and season, and the most common complaint in 3-star reviews across these tours is feeling rushed, with about an hour per town once you allow for walking down to the sea and back up.
Lunch is not included on most of these days. Worldtours sells a with-lunch option at $99 against $71 without, and Giromondo’s Sorrento day costs $135 with lunch against $101 without. On the others you eat during your free time, so a sit-down lunch comes out of your hours in town.
In Amalfi, many tours offer a short boat ride along the coast. On the Worldtours day it costs €15 per person, paid on site, or $89 if you book the option with the boat. On the Naples Official Tour it is part of the $93 option, and €15 is refunded if the sea cancels it. Reviewers who took the boat enjoyed it, though one couple found it left no time for a proper lunch.
Coach, minibus or small group
The coach day uses a full-size bus, and its listing states no group cap; one low-star reviewer found the bus too big for the coast road. Minibus tours such as the Worldtours day sell a small-group option, and HP Travel’s Positano, Amalfi and Sorrento Small Group Tour caps groups at 13 for $62, the lowest real-date price among the 24 tours on this site. Our small-group tours page compares the caps and vehicles.
Season and weather
Road tours run all year. What changes is the sea: the coach day’s Positano to Amalfi ferry runs April to October, and from November the transfer goes by bus. Some Worldtours days need at least 2 travelers from April to October and 4 from November to March.
October and November are the wettest months in Naples, with 135.5 mm and 152.1 mm of rain on average. Heavy rain can close the coast road, so read the operator’s messages the evening before. If you want to travel by sea, the season and the boat options are on our boat tours page.
Which day trip to book
Book the $73 coach day if you want the most time in Positano and Amalfi and can walk to a central bus stop. Pick the $71 Worldtours day if Sorrento matters to you or you want collection from a hotel, and add $28 if you want lunch arranged. Giromondo says its two day trips are not recommended for cruise passengers, so if you are coming off a ship, start with our cruise excursions page.
Prices and timetables can change, so confirm your exact date before you plan around it. When you are ready, check availability for the Positano and Amalfi coach day.

"Jojo was the most amazing guide! She made the best experience for us!"
"Our guide Maria and driver Antonio were great. They got us there safely and Maria had suggestions of things to do in each town, made lunch reservations. The weather was not great, which put a damper on our time, but nothing you can do about that."

Day Trip Questions
Timing, towns, pickup, lunch, season and what to wear on an Amalfi Coast day trip from Naples.
Yes. Shared road tours leave central Naples in the morning, drive 1 to 1.5 hours to the first town and bring you back in the early evening. The tours compared on this site take 8 to 9.5 hours and cost from $62 to $122 per person (checked October 2026). The $73 coach day gives about 3 hours in Positano and 2 in Amalfi; three-stop days add Sorrento with about an hour or more in each town.
Between 8 and 9.5 hours for the road tours compared here. The Positano and Amalfi coach day runs 9 hours, the Worldtours Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi day 8.5 hours, and Giromondo's four-stop day with Ravello 9.5 hours. About 2 to 3 hours of that is driving, so free time per town is often an hour or so. Traffic can stretch the return.
Pickups start in the morning, and each operator sets its own times. The Positano and Amalfi coach day starts at Molo Beverello at 08:10 and leaves its last stop, Via Ferraris, at 08:55. On the Worldtours day, bookings made less than 8 hours ahead meet at Starhotels Terminus at 08:30. Your exact pickup time arrives by email or message after booking.
You can see two or three towns in one day, with the coast road or a short ferry between them. You will not see every town: a typical day visits Positano and Amalfi, sometimes with Sorrento or Ravello added. Expect about an hour per town on three-stop days. If you want longer stops, a two-town day gives about 3 hours in Positano. See our itineraries page for the routes.
Positano and Amalfi are on almost every itinerary. Many days add Sorrento at the start, which is on the Sorrentine Peninsula and not one of the Amalfi Coast towns. Ravello days usually skip Sorrento. Giromondo's 9.5-hour day visits Sorrento, Amalfi and Ravello but only stops for 15 minutes outside Positano, so read each itinerary before you book.
Usually not. Worldtours sells its Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi day with lunch at $99, against $71 without, and Giromondo's premium day costs $135 with lunch against $101 without. On the other tours compared here you buy lunch in town during your free time, which shortens the time you have to explore. Several 3-star reviewers mention struggling to fit lunch in.
Some do. The Worldtours day collects from 11 points, including central hotels and the Archaeological Museum, with the Stazione Marittima for cruise passengers only. The $73 Positano and Amalfi coach day does not pick up at hotels: you board at one of eight central stops between Molo Beverello and Via Ferraris. Check your pickup point and time on the voucher.
Road tours run all year. On the Positano and Amalfi coach day, the ferry between the towns runs from April to October; from 1 November to 31 March the transfer is by bus and the return leaves Amalfi at 16:30. Some Worldtours days need 4 travelers to run from November to March, against 2 in high season. Boat tours are seasonal: see our boat tours page.
None of the road tours compared on this site is a half day: they run 8 to 9.5 hours, because the drive from Naples to the coast and back takes about 2.5 to 3 hours on its own. If your time is short, a two-town day such as Positano and Amalfi spends less of the day on the road between stops than a four-stop day with Sorrento and Ravello.
Comfortable walking shoes come first: Positano is built on steep slopes with staircases linking the upper village to the beach. Operators also suggest a hat, sunscreen and a camera, and swimwear in summer if you want a dip in Positano or Amalfi. Bring a light layer for the air-conditioned vehicle, and a rain jacket in October and November, the wettest months in Naples.
Some are, if the return time fits. Giromondo says its two day trips are not recommended for cruise passengers. Worldtours offers a Stazione Marittima pickup for cruise passengers on its Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi day. Compare the return time on your voucher with your ship's all-aboard time before booking. Our cruise excursions page covers port pickups.
For many visitors based in Naples, yes: a day trip gets you to Positano and Amalfi without driving the coast road or juggling ferries. The trade-off is time. Most 3-star reviews of these tours say the stops felt rushed, and a few found the towns very crowded. Choose a two-town day for longer stops, or a three-town day if seeing Sorrento matters more to you.
