Naples to Positano Ferry: Times, Fares and Alternatives
The Naples to Positano ferry in 2026: NLG sailings from Molo Beverello, the season end, fares, luggage, the last boat back and the train and bus option.
Yes, you can take a ferry from Naples to Positano, from 1 April to early November in 2026. NLG runs five hydrofoils a day from Molo Beverello, the first at 08:35, and an adult one-way ticket costs €32.00 on NLG’s own price list. The last boat back to Naples leaves Positano at 16:35.
Some sailings call at Sorrento or Capri on the way, so the trip takes roughly an hour and a half. Outside the season, or with heavy luggage, the train to Sorrento and the SITA bus are the fallback. If you would rather have the day organized, HP Travel’s Amalfi and Positano Boat Tour with Free Time picks you up in Naples, from $105 per person (checked October 2026).

When the Positano ferry runs in 2026
NLG’s Naples (Beverello) to Positano timetable is headed “1 April to 15 November 2026”, but most individual sailings carry an end date of 3 November. Plan on the season ending in early November, and treat any date after 3 November as something to confirm with NLG first. The Positano to Capri boats stop around the same time, with their last 2026 sailings on 3 and 4 November.
If you searched for the ferry in October, the boats are still running for a few more days, and every crossing in late October depends on the weather. October is one of the wettest months in Naples, with 135.5 mm of rain on average, and rough seas can stop the hydrofoils.
From November to March the picture changes. A local Positano site reports no hydrofoils between Sorrento and Positano, or between Positano and Capri, in those months. NLG had not published a 2026 to 2027 winter timetable as of late October 2026, and its last winter service on the coast, weekends only between Positano and Amalfi, has expired. Travelmar describes its Salerno to Positano boats, 70 minutes for €17.00, as year-round, but winter storms can still cancel them.
So for a winter day in Positano, plan on the road: the train and bus below, or a road tour from Naples, which runs all year. Next year’s ferry dates are not published yet, so check NLG’s timetable before you plan a spring 2027 trip.
From Molo Beverello to Spiaggia Grande
NLG’s Positano boats leave from Molo Beverello, the foot-passenger hydrofoil pier in central Naples, about a 5-minute walk from Municipio station on Metro Line 1. Do not head to Calata Porta di Massa, which serves the car ferries. The NLG ticket office at Beverello opens 07:30 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:30; arrive at least 15 minutes before departure, because reviewers describe slow, crowded boarding.
How long is the crossing? NLG does not print a journey time. On its GetYourGuide timetable, the 10:00 sailing calls at Sorrento and reaches Positano at 11:35, and the 16:24 from Positano, also via Sorrento, gets back to Naples at 17:45. One booking site lists the run at 80 minutes. Plan on 80 to 95 minutes depending on the stops.
In Positano you land at the pier on Spiaggia Grande, the main beach, which is used only for boarding and landing. Porters work there, which helps, because Positano climbs steeply from the sea on staircases and a suitcase makes them harder. NLG’s ticket office in Positano opens 08:00 to 19:00.
Is the crossing scenic or rough? With an outside seat, you see the Sorrento peninsula and then the cliffs as you approach Positano. NLG says the boat can vary and outside seats are not guaranteed, and some reviewers found no outdoor deck at all. In a strong sea, hydrofoils can be suspended.
Other companies sail the route too. A booking site lists Lucibello (Positano Jet) from Beverello at 10:45, 14:05 and 17:50, Tuesday to Thursday, and Alicost at 12:45 on Saturdays and Sundays. These come from one reseller only, so check them with the operator before relying on them.
The 2026 timetable
NLG’s daily sailings between Naples (Beverello) and Positano in 2026. Most run until 3 November; the 16:24 from Positano is one of the few with a different date, so confirm it if you travel late in the season.
| Naples (Beverello) to Positano | Positano to Naples (Beverello) |
|---|---|
| 08:35 | 09:15 |
| 10:00 (calls at Sorrento, arrives 11:35) | 10:55 |
| 10:40 | 16:24 (calls at Sorrento, arrives 17:45) |
| 14:40 | 16:35 |
| 15:35 |
For a day trip, take the 08:35 or 10:00 out and the 16:24 or 16:35 back. The 10:00 out and 16:35 back give you about five hours in Positano. The 14:40 and 15:35 departures suit you only if you are staying the night.
Fares, tickets and luggage
NLG’s own Naples to Positano fares, valid from 1 April 2024 to 31 December 2026:
| Ticket | Price |
|---|---|
| Adult, one way | €32.00 |
| Adult, return | €65.00 |
| Child 2 to 12, one way | €18.50 |
| 10:40 departure only, one way | €30.00 |
| Luggage, per piece | €5.00 one way, €10.00 return |
| Pets | €7.00 one way |
| Infant under 2, no seat | Free |
Fares include a fuel surcharge that NLG can adjust. Resellers show higher prices for the same boats, around €34 one way, €31 for the 10:40 and €27.50 for the 14:40, so compare with NLG before you pay.
You can buy at Beverello on the day or in advance. NLG also sells a round trip on GetYourGuide, the From Naples: Ferry to Amalfi and Positano, from $83 per person. Its Positano-first circuit leaves Naples at 10:00, gives about 1 hour 45 minutes in Positano and 3 hours 30 minutes in Amalfi, and gets back at 18:45. The Amalfi-first circuit gives Positano more time, about 2 hours 20 minutes. Reviewers mention late arrivals and crowded gates.
Getting back from Positano
The last NLG boat to Naples leaves at 16:35, with the 16:24 just before it. That is early, so build your day around it: buy the return with the outward ticket, and leave the beach with time to spare. If you miss it, you are left with the SITA bus to Sorrento and the train, and SITA’s last buses leave before 10 p.m.
The road alternatives
The rail-and-bus route works all year. The Circumvesuviana train runs from Napoli Garibaldi to Sorrento in about 70 to 75 minutes, roughly every 30 minutes, for a few euros. The reserved-seat Campania Express was suspended from 1 October 2026. In Sorrento you change to a SITA bus to Positano. Buy bus tickets before boarding, at tobacconists, newsstands, bars or the kiosk at Sorrento station; the 24-hour COSTIERASITA ticket cost €10.00 before SITA changed its fares on 1 October 2026, so check the current price. Buses are often full from May to October, with long queues from Positano back to Sorrento in the afternoon.
A road tour from Naples is the simplest year-round choice. TRAMVIA’s Amalfi Coast Day Trip in Positano & Amalfi gives you 3 hours in Positano, from $73 per person. Our Naples to Positano day trip guide compares the time each tour spends there, and the Naples to Amalfi Coast guide sets every mode side by side, private drivers included.
When a boat tour fits better
A boat tour suits you if you want the sea, a guide and pickup in Naples without handling tickets. HP Travel’s Amalfi and Positano Boat Tour with Free Time costs from $105 per person (4.6 from 195 GetYourGuide reviews) and gives you 3.5 hours in Amalfi but only 1 hour in Positano, so pick the ferry if Positano is the point of your day. Our boat tours page compares every sea day from Naples. When you have a date in season, check availability for HP Travel’s boat day.
