How the Ravello Route Works

Four steps on Di Sarno's 8-hour day, from a Naples meeting point to Ravello and back.

  1. Meet in Naples

Choose a Naples meeting point with an 8:30 departure, or the cruise terminal option at the same price. Check your voucher for the exact meeting time at your point.

  2. Over the peninsula to Positano

A 12-minute photo stop at Meta, then about an hour of free time in Positano for the lanes and the beach.

  3. Amalfi, with an optional boat

About 1.5 hours in Amalfi. A 40-minute boat trip along the coast is optional, about €15 per person paid on the spot.

  4. Ravello, then back

About 1.5 hours in Ravello, high above the sea, for Villa Rufolo or Villa Cimbrone (tickets extra), then the drive back to Naples.

Route Guide

Planning Your Amalfi Coast Route from Naples

What each route gives you, minute by minute, and the variants by sea or with Pompeii.

Day trips from Naples follow one of two routes. Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi is the first-timer’s day: the most tours to choose from, prices from $62, and Sorrento’s old town on the way. Positano, Amalfi and Ravello skips Sorrento, which is on the Sorrentine Peninsula and not one of the Amalfi Coast towns, and ends in Ravello, high above the sea, with its villa gardens.

Di Sarno’s Group Tour to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello gives about 1 hour in Positano and 1.5 hours each in Amalfi and Ravello for $101 per person (checked October 2026), with 4.7 from 2,330 GetYourGuide reviews. On either route expect about an hour or two per town: no single day gives you long stops in three places.

Quick picks by route

Route 1: Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi

This is the route most tours run. You leave Naples for Sorrento, about an hour away, then cross the peninsula to Positano and continue along the coast road to Amalfi. Sorrento gives you an old town, lemon products and, on several tours, a limoncello tasting. Positano and Amalfi are the coast’s two best-known towns.

The minutes differ more than the titles suggest:

NapoliCityVision Small Luxury TourFree timeOnly if traffic and parking allowAbout 1 h8$81
Giromondo Exclusive Tour1.5 h15-min stop outside town1.5 h, then Ravello 1.5 h9.5$95

Giromondo’s Exclusive Tour adds Ravello as a fourth stop but only pauses above Positano, so treat it as a Sorrento, Amalfi and Ravello day. NapoliCityVision visits Ravello in place of Positano when it cannot stop there. Our Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi guide walks through this route hour by hour.

Route 2: Positano, Amalfi and Ravello

The Ravello route crosses the peninsula, stops in Positano, then continues east to Amalfi and climbs to Ravello. You give up Sorrento and gain the coast’s hill town, with Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone and their sea views. Villa Rufolo’s standard ticket is €8, sold only on site, and none of the three tours below includes villa entry.

Worldtours Ravello premium tour15-min photo stop + 75 min1.5 h75 min8 to 9$71
Gray Line day tripGuided intro + about 1 h2 h75 min8 to 9$122

Gray Line goes from Positano to Amalfi by boat from April to October, sea conditions permitting, and by bus from November to March, when a visit to the Arsenal of the Amalfi Republic is included instead. Its official local guide stays with the group all day. Di Sarno and Worldtours use a driver or host and leave you free in each town. Our Positano, Amalfi and Ravello guide asks whether three towns in one day is too much.

How the two routes compare

Pick the Sorrento route if it is your first visit and you want the widest choice of dates, pickups and prices. It has the most-reviewed tour on this site and the lowest price, and Sorrento is an easy first stop after the drive from Naples. The cost is time: on most of these tours Positano gets about 75 minutes.

Pick the Ravello route if gardens and views matter more to you than shopping, or if you have already seen Sorrento. One 3-star reviewer on the Gray Line day found Positano and Amalfi too full of shops and suggested spending the most time in Ravello. You still get about an hour in Positano, and a 75-minute to 1.5-hour stop in Ravello leaves time for one villa garden if you go straight there.

Both routes share the same complaint in 3-star reviews: too little time per town. One reviewer on the Di Sarno day felt rushed because cruise passengers in the group had to be back at the port.

Variants: two towns, by sea, or with Pompeii

If three stops sounds like too much, three variants change the shape of the day:

Three days from Naples

With three days based in Naples, you can see most of what these routes cover without repeating yourself. Take a Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi day first, then a Positano, Amalfi and Ravello day or a boat day for the view from the sea, and keep the third day for Pompeii and Amalfi. Road days run all year; boat days and the Positano to Amalfi ferry legs are seasonal, roughly April to early November.

Which route to choose

Book the $101 Di Sarno day if you want Ravello and a cruise terminal pickup option, or Worldtours’ $71 Ravello day for the same three towns for less. Book the $71 Worldtours Sorrento day if it is your first time and you want the most-reviewed option. Timings move with traffic and season, so check the itinerary for your date, then check availability for the Positano, Amalfi and Ravello day.

"A bucket list tour in life. A massive thank you to our guide Angelo. Nothing was an issue, he went above and beyond to ensure all of our needs were met plus more. We had issues with the itinerary due to road closures which were no ones fault, but Angelo moved things around and put in extra hours to ensure that everything on the itinerary was met. Tour guides play a huge role in ensuring that life time memories are created, and Angelo is up there with the best Thank you, what you dos on the day will never be forgotten Book this day tour, you will not be disappointed"
