Pompeii Combos
Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast in One Day
Where Pompeii sits, how the combo days split their time and the ticket rules to know before you go.
Pompeii is not on the Amalfi Coast. The ruins sit on the Gulf of Naples shore south-east of Naples, about 25 km by road from the port, while Positano and Amalfi lie on the far side of the Sorrentine Peninsula. A combo day drives you over the peninsula and back, so plan on 8 to 9 hours. The featured From Naples: Amalfi Coast and Pompeii - Full Experience Tour from Worldtours includes the Pompeii ticket and a 2-hour guided visit, from $90 per person without lunch (checked October 2026). It is rated 4.7 from 3,354 GetYourGuide reviews.
Each group combo compared here visits a single Amalfi Coast town, for two hours at most. If seeing both Positano and Amalfi matters more to you than Pompeii, book a coast day and visit the ruins on another day.
Quick picks for Pompeii and the coast
- Ticket and guide included at the lowest price of the three: Worldtours’ Amalfi and Pompeii day, from $90 per person, 2 hours in Amalfi and 2 guided hours in Pompeii. Check availability
- Pompeii in the morning: NapoliCityVision’s From Naples: Pompeii & Amalfi Coast Full-Day Trip, from $191 with the entry ticket, then 1.5 hours in Amalfi. Our breakdown
- Positano and Sorrento instead of Amalfi: Ciao Naples’ From Naples & Salerno: Amalfi Coast Sorrento, Pompeii Tour, from $117, rated 4.9 from 109 reviews; the Pompeii ticket is extra. Our breakdown
How far apart Pompeii and the coast are
By road, Pompeii is about 25 km from Molo Beverello in Naples, roughly 23 minutes without traffic. From Pompeii it is about 36 km to Positano (around 46 minutes) and about 27 km to Sorrento (around 38 minutes). These are drive times without traffic, so treat them as the best case. The Circumvesuviana train from Naples to Sorrento also stops at Pompei Scavi – Villa dei Misteri.
On your trip, that means the coast part of a combo costs the most driving. The featured tour spends about 1.5 hours reaching Agerola and another 40 minutes to Amalfi, then 75 minutes from Amalfi to Pompeii.
How the featured day runs
Worldtours collects you at one of 11 points in Naples and drives up to Agerola, a town above the coast, for a 15-minute photo stop. You then get 2 hours of free time in Amalfi, with a limoncello tasting at a local shop and time for the Duomo di Sant’Andrea. Lunch is included only on the lunch options ($117 regular group, $135 small group). The boat ride in Amalfi is extra and paid on site.
In the afternoon an expert guide leads a 2-hour visit of Pompeii, ticket included. The listing guarantees a live guide when at least 6 people share your language, and the tour may run in two languages. A small-group option costs $108 without lunch, though a few reviewers who paid for it found themselves in a group of 20 or more.
Other caveats from reviews: a cramped van on a hot day, crowds bottlenecking in Pompeii’s narrow lanes, and too little time in Amalfi. The tour needs at least 2 travelers from April to October and 4 from November to March.
Pompeii tickets and hours to know
- Tickets are named. The park prints each visitor’s name on the ticket, which is why the featured tour asks you to bring a passport or ID card.
- A daily cap of 20,000 visitors applies, and from 16 March to 14 October entry is timed in two slots (9:00–13:00 and 13:00–17:30).
- From 15 October to 15 March the park opens 9:00–17:00 with last entry at 15:30. From 16 March it is 9:00–19:00, last entry 17:30.
- Pompei express (the city) costs €20; Pompei+ (adding the outer villas and a shuttle) €25. EU citizens aged 18 to 25 pay €2.
- Entry is free on the first Sunday of each month, and on 1 and 4 November 2026. The featured tour is discounted on first Sundays, while one private operator warns that free-day tickets cannot be booked ahead and queues are long.
- Only small bags (up to 30 x 30 x 15 cm) are allowed inside.
If your tour excludes the ticket, as Ciao Naples’ group day does, buy it in your own name from Vivaticket, the park’s authorized online seller, and carry ID.
The three combo days side by side
| Tour | Coast stops | Pompeii | Ticket | From | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Worldtours Amalfi and Pompeii | Agerola photo stop, Amalfi 2 h | 2 h guided | Included | $90 | 4.7 (3,354) |
| NapoliCityVision Pompeii and Amalfi | Amalfi 1.5 h | About 2 h; guide with 6+ in high season, else audio guide | Included | $191 | 4.5 (288) |
| Ciao Naples Positano, Sorrento, Pompeii | Positano 1 h, Sorrento 80 min | 2 h; audio guide for groups up to 8 | Extra | $117 | 4.9 (109) |
Sorrento sits on the Sorrentine Peninsula and is not an Amalfi Coast town, so the Ciao Naples day reaches one coast town, Positano. Its group option opens for bookings from 6 November 2026; a private version for up to 6 costs $310 to $387 per person. On the NapoliCityVision day, one reviewer reported the driver took a mountain road and skipped the coastal drive, so check the route with the assistant on board.
Who a combo day suits
Book a combo if you have one free day in Naples and want Pompeii’s guided streets plus a first look at the coast. It is a long, hot day in summer, with two hours at each site and a lot of driving between them.
If the coast matters most, a road day such as our Amalfi Coast day trips gives you two or three towns for less, from $62 per person. Cruise passengers should check the return time against their ship on the cruise excursions page. For a private car, see the private tours. When you have settled on your date, check availability for the Worldtours Amalfi and Pompeii day.

What Travelers Say About the Combo Day
Ratings and review counts are the operators' live figures on GetYourGuide and Viator and may shift slightly day to day.
"Our driver Vinny was great. He made sure that we found them at the meeting spot and he was very knowledgeable about the route we needed to take and the timing of each leg of our journey. Our Pompeii guide was also fantastic. She was so full of knowledge and you could tell she genuinely enjoyed sharing it all with us. Overall, we had a wonderful experience."
"This tour was fantastic! Our tour guide, Nadia, was very kind and prompt, everything ran so smoothly! The tour of Pompeii was so incredible, and our tour guide there, Nina was AMAZING - so knowledgeable and engaging. Highly recommend!"
"Bruno, Francesso and Meena were superb. A fabulous tour and totally worth the money. Make sure you take the time to go."
"Connie was a great guide and Antonio drove the bus through some harrowingly tight curves up and down the mountain and through narrow streets. Luka was our tour guide at Pompeii and he was a fantastic story teller and was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the city. I’d love to go back and take another one of his Pompeii tours!"
"Our trip to the Amalfi Coast was amazing! The optional boat trip was well worth it to see the coastline from the sea. Our guide Connie arranged everything perfectly and did a great job narrating what we were seeing. She was a wonderful, insightful guide on the bus throughout the tour and also coordinated our Pompeii tour flawlessly. Luca, our guide at Pompeii, was very knowledgeable and did a great job explaining all the highlights. And hats off to our amazing bus driver Antonio who kept us safe through all the winding roads! I would definitely recommend this tour and these guides!"

Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Questions
Geography, timing, tickets, guides and opening hours for a Pompeii and Amalfi Coast day from Naples.
No. Pompeii sits on the Gulf of Naples shore, south-east of Naples, while the Amalfi Coast runs along the southern shore of the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the far side of the mountains. Combo tours drive you over the peninsula between the two, which is why the days last 8 to 9 hours. Both places are on the UNESCO World Heritage List, each inscribed in 1997.
Yes, on a guided day from Naples, but you see one coast town. Worldtours' combo gives 2 hours in Amalfi and a 2-hour guided Pompeii visit, from $90 per person; NapoliCityVision's does Pompeii first, then 1.5 hours in Amalfi. If you want Positano and Amalfi as well, our Amalfi Coast day trips cover the coast alone.
About 36 km by road, roughly 46 minutes without traffic. Pompeii to Sorrento is about 27 km, roughly 38 minutes. Expect longer in summer traffic. Ciao Naples' combo day visits Positano for an hour and Sorrento for 80 minutes before 2 hours at Pompeii, from $117 per person with the Pompeii ticket extra.
About 25 km by road from Molo Beverello, roughly 23 minutes without traffic. By train, the Circumvesuviana line from Naples to Sorrento stops at Pompei Scavi – Villa dei Misteri. On the featured combo the last leg runs the other way: about 45 minutes from Pompeii back to your drop-off point in Naples.
On two of the three days compared here. Worldtours' Amalfi and Pompeii day and NapoliCityVision's Pompeii and Amalfi day include the ticket. Ciao Naples' day does not; its listing gives €20 per adult, free under 18. Pompeii tickets carry your name, so if you buy your own, use Vivaticket, the park's authorized online seller, and bring ID.
Usually, if enough people share your language. Worldtours guarantees a live guide with at least 6 participants in the same language. NapoliCityVision provides a guide in high season with 6 or more per language and an audio guide otherwise. Ciao Naples gives an audio guide to groups of up to 8 and a licensed guide to groups of 12 or more.
About 2 hours on each of the three combo days compared here. NapoliCityVision's listing names the large theater, the necropolis, the thermal baths and some of the grandest houses, a small part of a site of over 60 hectares. If Pompeii is your main interest, give it a day of its own and book a separate coast day.
From 15 October to 15 March the park opens 9:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 15:30. From 16 March to 14 October it opens 9:00 to 19:00, last entry 17:30, and entry is timed in a morning and an afternoon slot. It closes on 25 December and 1 January. Afternoon combo visits have to arrive before last entry.
A passport or ID card, because tickets are named and the featured tour asks for one. Only small bags of up to 30 x 30 x 15 cm are allowed inside the park, and the Worldtours day does not allow luggage or large bags in the vehicle either. Wear comfortable shoes for uneven stone streets, plus a hat and sunscreen in summer.
Yes, entry is free on the first Sunday of each month, and the park also announced free entry on 1 and 4 November 2026. The featured Worldtours day is discounted on first Sundays. One private operator warns that free-day tickets cannot be booked ahead and that queues are likely to be long, so plan for a wait.
Fairly near: about 27 km by road, roughly 38 minutes without traffic, and both stations sit on the same Circumvesuviana line from Naples. Sorrento is on the Sorrentine Peninsula and is not an Amalfi Coast town. Ciao Naples' combo pairs Pompeii with Sorrento and Positano in one 8-hour day, from $117 per person.
Some combos pick up at the port: Worldtours offers a Stazione Marittima pickup for cruise passengers only, and Ciao Naples meets at the Port of Naples. A combo lasts 8 to 9 hours, so compare the return time on your voucher with your ship's all-aboard time before you book. Our cruise excursions page covers port timing.
