Private Driver or Guided Tour: Prices and Choices
What a private day from Naples costs at each party size, who rides with you and what you can change.
A private Amalfi Coast tour from Naples gives your group its own car and driver for the day, with pickup where you are staying. The featured Private Amalfi Coast Tour: Scenic Positano, Amalfi & Ravello from Visit Amalfi Coast costs about $273 per person when two travel and about $168 each for four (checked October 2026). It is rated 5.0 from 188 reviews on Viator.
Because the price per person drops as your group grows, a private day suits four to seven people far better than a couple. Two travelers can join a shared minibus day to the same three towns from $71 per person.

What a private day costs at each party size
The Viator private listings publish a price per person that changes with the number of travelers. Di Sarno’s Private Day tour of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello from Naples (4.8 from 603 reviews on Viator) is priced per vehicle instead: about $492 for a car for up to two, about $663 for a minivan for up to eight. The table divides that vehicle price by the group to compare like with like.
| Travelers | Visit Amalfi Coast (featured) | Compass Tour | Di Sarno, per vehicle (about, per head) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | About $492 | About $776 | Car about $492 |
| 2 | About $273 each | About $388 each | About $246 each (car) |

The three GetYourGuide privates were priced for two adults on our check dates: $313 per person for Worldtours’ From Naples: Amalfi Coast Deluxe Private Tour, $241 for Di Sarno by sedan ($325 by minivan) and $265 for See Amalfi Coast. Check the price for your own group size when you pick a date.
On your trip, that means a couple pays roughly four times the shared fare: about $273 each against $71 on the Worldtours minibus day to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. A group of six pays about $138 each, close to the $122 Gray Line charges per seat on its shared day with a local guide. Visit Amalfi Coast’s tiers apply to dates from November 2026 to mid-April 2027, so summer prices may differ.
Driver or guide: who rides with you
Every private option on this page is led by a driver. Visit Amalfi Coast lists an English-speaking driver-escort who is a certified tour leader, Worldtours a driver-guide, Di Sarno a driver who gives live commentary on board. Compass Tour’s listing excludes a professional guide, and See Amalfi Coast excludes a licensed guide. In practice your driver talks on the road, drops you in each town and meets you again at an agreed time; you explore the streets on your own.
A few reviewers of the GetYourGuide privates expected a guide and got a driver with limited English, or felt rushed at the stops. If commentary matters to you, ask the operator about the driver’s English before you book, and agree the stops at pickup.
If you want someone to walk you through the towns, the shared From Naples or Sorrento: Positano, Amalfi & Ravello Day Trip has an official local guide who introduces Positano, Amalfi and Ravello before your free time, from $122 per person, 4.7 from 2,325 reviews. The listing also offers a private option.
What a private day lets you change
Pickup is the clearest gain. Di Sarno collects you anywhere within Naples city limits, including hotels, ports, the airport and train stations, and lets you adjust the itinerary as long as the day keeps its length. See Amalfi Coast also picks up at hotels, the port, the airport and stations, and Worldtours’ driver collects you from your hotel at 09:00. Compass Tour says its timing can be changed to suit you.
Families can ask for child seats. Di Sarno’s listings say infants need their own seat and that car seats or boosters are available on request; under Italian rules, children shorter than 1.50 m must ride in an approved child restraint. Visit Amalfi Coast’s listing says the tour is wheelchair accessible, while Worldtours’ private day is marked unsuitable for wheelchair users.
On the road itself, chauffeured cars and taxis are exempt from the odd/even plate rule on the Amalfi Coast road, which in 2026 applied on weekends and public holidays until 31 October. From 1 November there are no plate restrictions until next season.
What the price leaves out
Lunch is excluded on every private day here, and so are gratuities. Entrance fees are extra too: Villa Rufolo in Ravello costs €8 for a standard ticket, sold only at the gate. Worldtours’ car carries a non-alcoholic mini bar, while Visit Amalfi Coast and See Amalfi Coast include fuel and parking or tolls in the price.
Private or shared: choosing
Book the private day if you are four or more, travel with small children who need car seats, or want pickup at an address the shared tours do not serve. Couples who mainly want the towns save most on a shared small-group day; our small-group page compares those, and the Ravello day from Naples is the $71 option mentioned above.
Arriving by ship? Private options from the port are on the cruise excursions page. To fit Pompeii into the same day, see the Pompeii and Amalfi Coast tours. When your group size is settled, check availability for the Visit Amalfi Coast private day.

Private Amalfi Coast Tour Questions
Prices by party size, drivers and guides, pickup, child seats and what a private day from Naples leaves out.
It depends on how many of you travel. Visit Amalfi Coast's private Positano, Amalfi and Ravello day on Viator costs about $492 for one traveler, about $273 each for two, $168 each for four and $124 each for seven (checked October 2026). On GetYourGuide, the three private days cost $241 to $313 per person when priced for two adults.
Both models exist. Most private listings here charge per person, with a lower rate per head as the group grows. Di Sarno's private Positano, Amalfi and Ravello day on Viator is priced per vehicle instead: about $492 for a car for up to two and about $663 for a minivan for up to eight, which works out at about $83 each when eight share it.
A driver takes you between towns, talks about the coast on the road and waits while you explore on your own. A guide walks with you in town. Every private day on this page is driver-led, and two listings exclude a professional or licensed guide. For guided introductions in each town, the shared Gray Line day from Naples includes an official local guide, from $122 per person.
For four or more people, often yes: four pay about $168 each on the featured private day, against shared minibus seats from $71. For a couple the gap is wide, about $273 each against $71. A private car pays off most when you need pickup at your own address, child seats or a slower pace. Our small-group page compares the shared minivan days.
Within limits. Di Sarno lets you customize the itinerary on its GetYourGuide private day as long as the day keeps its length, and Compass Tour says its timing can be changed to suit you. Visit Amalfi Coast lists Ravello, Amalfi and Positano with free time in each and a meeting time you agree with the driver. Tell the operator your wishes when you book and confirm them at pickup.
Several can. Di Sarno picks up anywhere within Naples city limits, including hotels, ports, the airport and train stations, but not in Sorrento, Positano or Pompeii. See Amalfi Coast also collects from hotels, the port, the airport and stations. Cruise passengers should compare the return time with their ship's all-aboard time; see our cruise excursions page.
On request with some operators. Di Sarno's listings say infants must have their own seat and cannot sit on laps, and that car seats or boosters can be requested. Italian rules require children under 1.50 m to ride in an approved child restraint, so ask for the right seat when you book and give each child's age and height.
Lunch and gratuities are excluded on every private day compared here, and entrance fees are extra too. Villa Rufolo in Ravello costs €8 for a standard ticket, sold only at the gate. Visit Amalfi Coast includes fuel and parking fees, and See Amalfi Coast includes parking and highway tolls. Budget for lunch in Positano or Amalfi.
Naples taxis use fixed fares for trips out of the city, and you must agree the fare with the driver before you get in. For a full day with stops in several towns, a private tour is simpler to price: the Di Sarno car for up to two costs about $492 for the day, with the driver waiting at each stop. Our Naples to Amalfi Coast guide compares every way to go.
Yes, but the Amalfi Coast road (SS163) is about 7 m wide for two-way traffic, and heavy rain can close it for rockfall. In 2026 an odd/even plate rule applied on weekends and holidays until 31 October, from 10:00 to 18:00. Chauffeured cars and taxis are exempt, which is one reason many visitors hire a driver for the day.
Yes. Road tours run all year, and Visit Amalfi Coast's private day on Viator shows dates through mid-April 2027, with its current price tiers set for November 2026 to April 2027. Worldtours and See Amalfi Coast say their private days run rain or shine, so dress for the season and keep an umbrella in the car.
Book the featured private day on Viator by choosing your date and number of travelers; Worldtours, Di Sarno and See Amalfi Coast also sell private days on GetYourGuide. Every private listing on this page offers free cancellation, on GetYourGuide up to 24 hours before the start. Prices and availability change, so check your exact date before you plan the rest of the trip.
