How the Small Group Day Works
Four steps on HP Travel's 9-hour day, which visits Amalfi first and Sorrento last.
Meet at Starhotels Terminus
The group meets at Starhotels Terminus in Naples, the starting and finishing point. The drive to Amalfi takes about 1.5 hours, with photo stops at viewpoints along the coast.
Free time in Amalfi
The listing gives Amalfi the longest stop, about 2.5 hours, for the cathedral, the lanes and lunch, which you buy yourself.
Positano, then Sorrento
About 45 minutes by road to Positano for about an hour, then another 45 minutes to Sorrento for about an hour and a limoncello tasting.
Back to Naples
About 1.5 hours back to Starhotels Terminus. Traffic on the coast road can shorten the stops or delay the return.

Small Group Guide
What Small Group Means on the Amalfi Coast
Group caps per listing, the vehicle, the price gap with the coach and who it suits.
A small group Amalfi Coast tour from Naples usually means a minivan or minibus in place of a full-size coach, but the label has no fixed size. Among the listings that state a cap, groups run from 8 to 21 people, and many listings give no number at all. Read the cap before you book, because that is the only part of “small group” a listing commits to.
HP Travel’s Positano, Amalfi and Sorrento Small Group Tour caps groups at 13 and costs $62 per person, the lowest real-date price among the 24 tours on this site (checked October 2026). It has 4.8 from 713 GetYourGuide reviews and runs 9 hours, with Amalfi first and Sorrento last.
Quick picks for a smaller group
- A cap of 13 and the lowest price: the $62 HP Travel day, 9 hours, meeting at Starhotels Terminus. Our breakdown
- The most reviews: the Worldtours Sorrento, Positano & Amalfi Premium Tour, $71, small-group option, 4.8 from 18,989 reviews. Our breakdown
- Ravello in place of Sorrento: the $71 Positano, Amalfi & Ravello Premium Tour, also by Worldtours, 4.8 from 517 reviews. Our breakdown
- The Amalfi boat cruise included: the Worldtours day with boat, $94 with the boat on 24 October, groups of up to 20. Our breakdown
- Collection from more hotels: NapoliCityVision’s Small Luxury Tour, $81, with 10 pickup points. Our breakdown
What small group means on each listing
Only some listings give a number. The HP Travel day caps groups at 13 and the Worldtours day with boat at 20. Many others, including the most-reviewed Worldtours day, say only that a small-group option is available. On Viator, Mondo Guide puts groups of 6 to 8 in an 8-seat van with a driver and groups of 9 to 21 in a 21-seat minibus with a guide.
Some reviewers found their group bigger than they expected. One on the NapoliCityVision day says they were moved from an eight-person group to one of more than 20, and one on Gray Line’s Ravello day was in a combined group of about 30. If group size matters to you, choose a listing with a stated cap and message the operator before you travel.
The vehicle is the other half of the label. A minivan can reach places a coach cannot: the Naples Official Tour uses a minivan with authorized access to central Positano. Positano runs a restricted traffic zone on via Pasitea and its central streets for vehicles with more than five seats, and some listings make the Positano stop conditional. NapoliCityVision stops in Positano only if traffic and parking allow, and visits Ravello in its place if not.
Small group, coach or private: the price gap
On these listings a small group costs about the same as the coach. The coach day to Positano and Amalfi is $73 per person, while the small-group days compared here cost from $62 to $101. The Worldtours day with boat was $94 with the boat and $101 without on 24 October, so check both options on your date.
| Tour | Group cap on the listing | Towns | Hours | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HP Travel small group | Up to 13 | Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento | 9 | $62 |
| Worldtours premium tour | Small-group option, no number | Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi | 8.5 | $71 |
| Worldtours Ravello day | Small-group option, no number | Positano, Amalfi, Ravello | 8 to 9 | $71 |
| Naples Official Tour | Not stated (minivan) | Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi | 9 | $79 |
| Small Luxury Tour | Small-group option, no number | Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi | 8 | $81 |
| Worldtours day with boat | Up to 20 | Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi | 8.5 | $94 |
A private car costs much more per person when two travel. Di Sarno’s private sedan day starts at $241 per person, and the Mercedes van on Viator above costs about $315 each for two on its private option, falling to about $159 each for four and about $93 each for eight. Our private tours page covers the party-size maths.
The HP Travel day, stop by stop
The HP Travel day runs the classic towns in reverse. You meet at Starhotels Terminus, drive about 1.5 hours to Amalfi for about 2.5 hours, then spend about an hour each in Positano and Sorrento before the 1.5-hour drive back. Starting in Amalfi puts the longest stop first, so you have time for the Duomo di Sant’Andrea and lunch before the shorter stops.
The tour leader speaks English and Spanish, and a few reviewers found that translating everything twice slowed the commentary. One reviewer says the group got about an hour at every stop despite the 2.5 hours listed for Amalfi, and another felt the stops in Sorrento and Amalfi should be split more evenly. Lunch is not listed as included, and a separate Winter Season option appears on the listing for the colder months.
Small group boat days
Small groups also go by sea. You Know! Boat’s Positano and Amalfi Boat Tour with Drinks takes up to 12 people for 11 hours, with swim stops, drinks and snacks, from $195 per person. You are back in Naples no earlier than 20:00, and the operator says it is not suitable for cruise passengers. Our boat tours page compares it with the bigger boat days.
Who a small group suits
A small group suits first-time visitors who want a central or hotel pickup, three towns in a day and fewer people to wait for at each stop. Small does not always mean roomy: one 3-star reviewer found the back seats of a Worldtours minibus cramped and too warm.
It suits travelers with limited mobility less well. Several listings, including the Worldtours days and the NapoliCityVision day, say they are not suitable for people with mobility impairments, and Positano is built on steep slopes linked by staircases. Families with young children should check the stroller and child-seat rules on each listing.
If you want a group of only your own party, compare the private tours. If you want the most time in two towns and do not mind a coach, the day trips page has the Positano and Amalfi coach day. Otherwise, check availability for the HP Travel small group tour.

What Small Group Travelers Say
Ratings and review counts are the operators' live figures on GetYourGuide and Viator and may shift slightly day to day.
"Perfect and interesting trip,Danielle &Margarita amazing tour guide and chauffeur.Just too little time to spend in Positano otherwise the tour was perfect."
"Maritina and Danilo was great team ! It was a pleasure to join them"
"Margarita was an incredible host, super friendly, highly knowledgeable, and full of great recommendations for hidden spots and shops. Our driver Dominic kept us feeling completely safe and comfortable throughout the entire trip. A slightly longer stop at each location would make it perfect, but overall an excellent tour. Definitely book this!"
"Margarita & Lorenzo were brilliant. She is such a great guide, with loads of snippets of information. Lorenzo was a great driver. Would recommend for a whistle stop tour of the main sights."
"The trip is great if you want to explore the region in a short amount of time. The guide was very helpful and provided suggestions of activities/experiences."

Small Group Tour Questions
Group caps, vehicles, pickup, lunch, prices and who a small group Amalfi Coast tour from Naples suits.
It depends on the listing, because small group has no fixed size. HP Travel's Positano, Amalfi and Sorrento tour caps groups at 13, and the Worldtours day with the Amalfi boat cruise at 20. A Mercedes van day on Viator takes up to 8. Many listings, including the most-reviewed Worldtours day, say only that a small-group option is available, with no number.
It is quicker at each stop, with fewer people to wait for, and a minivan can reach some places a coach cannot, such as central Positano on the Naples Official Tour. A coach day can give longer stops: the $73 Positano and Amalfi coach day lists about 3 hours in Positano. Pick the small group for three towns, the coach for more time in two.
From $62 to $101 per person for the small-group days compared on this site (checked October 2026). HP Travel's tour with a cap of 13 is $62, the Worldtours Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi day $71, NapoliCityVision's day $81, and the Worldtours day with the boat cruise $94 with the boat on 24 October. That is about the same as the $73 coach day.
Some do. The Worldtours day collects from 11 points including central hotels, and NapoliCityVision's day from 10, including Grand Hotel Vesuvio and the Royal Continental. HP Travel's $62 tour meets at Starhotels Terminus only. Check the pickup list for your option, since operators send exact times by email or message after you book.
Usually not. HP Travel does not list lunch among its inclusions, NapoliCityVision excludes it, and the Worldtours day with boat lists food and drinks as excluded. Worldtours sells its Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi day with lunch at $99, against $71 without. Otherwise you buy lunch in town during your free time, which is often about an hour per stop.
Mostly size and access. A minivan or minibus carries a small group and can use narrower roads; the Naples Official Tour's minivan has authorized access to central Positano. Positano restricts vehicles with more than five seats on its central streets, and some tours make the Positano stop conditional on traffic and parking. A coach carries more people and stops in fewer places.
Most visit Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi; HP Travel's tour does them in reverse, with Amalfi first. Worldtours' Ravello day visits Positano, Amalfi and Ravello and skips Sorrento, which is on the Sorrentine Peninsula and not an Amalfi Coast town. Our itineraries page compares the minutes per town on each route.
It can be, if everyone walks comfortably on slopes and stairs. Positano is built on steep slopes linked by staircases, and several listings, including the Worldtours days and NapoliCityVision's day, say they are not suitable for people with mobility impairments. Fewer people at each stop helps, but expect a lot of time seated in the vehicle on winding roads.
Yes. You Know! Boat's Positano and Amalfi boat tour with drinks takes up to 12 people for 11 hours, with swim stops, drinks and snacks, from $195 per person. You are back in Naples no earlier than 20:00, and the operator says it is not suitable for cruise passengers. Boat days are seasonal. See our boat tours page for the options.
Road tours run all year. HP Travel lists a separate Winter Season option for its small group tour, and the Worldtours days need at least 4 travelers to run from November to March, against 2 from April to October. The Amalfi boat cruise on the Worldtours day depends on sea and weather conditions, so check what your date includes.
About an hour to 1.5 hours to the first stop. HP Travel's tour drives about 1.5 hours from Starhotels Terminus to Amalfi, and the Worldtours day about an hour from Naples to Sorrento. Between towns allow 45 minutes to an hour by road, and traffic on the coast road can add more. Our Naples to Amalfi Coast guide covers the other ways to get there.
Some small group days offer a Stazione Marittima pickup for cruise passengers, including the Worldtours day with boat. What matters most is the return time: compare the time on your voucher with your ship's all-aboard time before you book, and allow for traffic. Our cruise excursions page compares tours built around the port.
